Bernard C Day was born in Leicestershire, England in 1884. He was employed by the New Arrol-Johnson Motor Car Company before he joined the British Antarctic Expedition, 1907-1909 (leader Ernest Henry Shackleton), as motor expert on board the Nimrod . After this expedition, he joined the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott) as a motor engineer but returned home after the first year.
